  • What is infrared sauna?
Infrared sauna cabins emit infrared heat, which is unlike traditional saunas or steam rooms. Infrared is an electromagnetic light wave that penetrates 4-6 inches into your skin for the ultimate cellular level detox, from the inside out! The infrared wavelength is part of the sun's invisible spectrum of light, located next the the colour red and felt as warmth. Infrared heat is safe and healing - so safe that it is used in hospitals to keep newborns warm in humidicribs. These penetrating rays of light help to boost your metabolism and allow your body to sweat away harmful toxins. Infrared rays are easily absorbed and penetrate the body deeply, stimulating lymphatic, immune and cardiovascular sysytems.

We advise children to use the sauna for no longer than 20 minutes at a time. The parent must also agree to keep the child on the bench in the sauna and avoid getting close the the heaters that are HOT to touch. Parents or guardians must read and sign the and waiver for both themselves and their child, and acknowledge the child section of the waiver.
  • I had a lot to drink last night, can I come sweat?
If you have been intoxicated within 24 hours of your scheduled sauna session we will have to reschedule your appointment. It can be dangerous to your health to be in an infrared sauna if you have been drinking heavily so close to your session. The body goes through an intense detoxification process during our sauna treatments and will do whatever it can to rebalance itself and return to a place of homeostasis. Alcohol in excess is a toxin in the body and when combined with dehydration, can be very unpleasant. Please refrain from alcohol use before your appointment.
  • What should I do after a sweat?
As long as you stay hydrated, you can go about your daily business after a sweat. However, to fully enjoy your post-sweat glow, we recommend taking it fairly easy for an hour or so.
  • Can I shower afterward?
We do have a bathroom + shower. You are welcome to shower after your session, but we ask that you keep it fairly quick because we share the bathroom with the whole clinic (chiropracters + massage therapists). But you are most welcome to have a rinse post sauna.
  • What if I am pregnant?
Unfortunately, we cannot offer infrared sauna sessions to pregnant clients. You can however enjoy the brain tap mediation treatment.
  • What do I do in the sauna?
In the sauna you can meditate, daydream, listen to music or a podcast on the cabin Bluetooth (which you can connect your phone to), stretch, and just relax and embrace the beautiful warmth and healing going on in that incredible body of yours.
  • Do you have gift cards?
Yes! Call or text Nicole or purchase in studio!
  • What is Red Light Therapy?
Red light therapy (RLT), also known as photobiomodulation, or low-level light therapy (LLLT) is a LED therapy light that utilizes near-infrared light treatment in combination with red LED light to stimulate various biological processes in the body. This precise combination of wavelengths promotes tissue repair, hair growth, skin rejuvenation, reduction of fine lines, collagen production, hormone balance and increases cellular energy. It also helps improve mood and sleep as well as skin health, skin tone and wound healing. Sunlight exposure is essential to human existence. We need the ultraviolet light (UV) spectrum from sunlight to produce vitamin D, and just as important is the infrared light (IR) spectrum from sunlight for things like our circadian rhythm, which helps to regulate our sleep cycles. Red Light Therapy is very safe and non-invasive.
  • Does the light go through normal clothing, or do you have to bare your skin?
Our device can penetrate through your clothes, however, we do recommend doing your light treatment with your bare skin so the light can penetrate deeper. You are in a private room while doing your red light therapy at The Wellness Studio.
  • How does this red light differ from the sun light?
Here are some key differences between red light therapy and sunlight: 1. Wavelength: Red light therapy devices emit light within a specific wavelength range, usually between 600 and 700 nanometers (nm). Sunlight, on the other hand, contains a broad spectrum of wavelengths, including red light, but also other colors in the visible spectrum as well as ultraviolet and infrared light. 2. Intensity: Red light therapy devices emit light at a controlled and relatively low intensity compared to the intensity of sunlight. This lower intensity is considered safe and is designed to provide therapeutic benefits without causing harm or excessive heating of tissues. 3. UV Radiation: Sunlight contains ultraviolet (UV) radiation, including UVA and UVB rays, which can have harmful effects on the skin and eyes in excessive amounts. Red light therapy devices do not emit UV radiation, making them safer in terms of UV exposure.
  • Is Protective Eyewear Required?
It's not mandatory. Some users might opt for goggles, but numerous studies highlight red light therapy's potential eye health benefits. Direct exposure, especially for those sensitive to light, isn't recommended. If in doubt, consulting with a medical professional is wise. We provide eye protection in the studio and advise you to use it during your treatment.
  • You say there is scientific evidence/proof for this, where can I see that?
There are numerous studies on various kinds of light therapy that you can read up on. The research shows many positive results. It is a legitimate and widely-used health intervention to improve how you feel, look & perform. You can read more blog articles and clinical studies proving it here and here.
  • Can I use red light therapy if I'm breastfeeding?
The Kala Red Light devices are designed and manufactured with the utmost care and consideration for user safety. These devices emit red light within a specific wavelength range that has been extensively studied and deemed safe for various applications, including breastfeeding and pregnancy. Regarding breastfeeding, the Kala red light panels do not emit any harmful radiation or heat that could negatively impact nursing mothers or infants. Therefore, using the Kala Red Light device while breastfeeding should pose no risk to either the mother or the baby. Similarly, during pregnancy, the Kala red light panels are considered safe for use. However, as with any new regimen or device, we recommend consulting with your healthcare provider before incorporating it into your routine during pregnancy. While there are no known adverse effects, individual circumstances may vary, and your healthcare professional can provide personalized guidance based on your specific situation.
  • Does sunscreen interfere with my red light / near-infrared light therapy?
We always recommend coming to the studio with the least amount of product/creams on as possible. We also appreciate that you might not be able to. We have face wipes and face clothes in the studio for you to use at your convenience. We also have a shower in the bathroom that we share with the entire clinic (we are located in Penticton Chiropractic & Co) so you can always have a quick rinse before or after your treatment as well. RLT (red light therapy) and NIR (near infrared) therapy primarily target deeper layers of the skin, working on cellular rejuvenation, collagen production, and other skin health aspects. Sunscreen typically provides a protective barrier on the surface of the skin, primarily blocking UV rays. Since RLT and NIR therapy penetrate beneath the surface, the sunscreen is unlikely to obstruct these therapeutic effects.
  • What to know, and bring to your appointment at The Wellness Studio
Drink lots of water on the day of, and after your appointment. Add an electrolyte to your water after your sauna session to replenish salts lost during your sweat/detox session in the sauna. Bring a bathing suit or shorts and a tank top or sports bra - whatever clothing you are comfortable wearing in the sauna and for red light therapy. The more skin exposed during your red light therapy & sauna session, the better, just remember to sit on a towel at all times. We have robes & towels for you to use during your session. I will guide you, get you set up and answer any questions you have regarding the treatments. Then the room is all yours to enjoy, relax & take time for YOURSELF. We recommend packing some loose clothing to change into after your sauna session. We have a shower in the clinic if you want to cool down after your session. Limit the amount of personal care products you use before your session - moisturisers, oils & fragrances can inhibit sweating. Bring: Water & bathing suit Some people like to bring a book or journal for the sauna Lastly, the sauna is Bluetooth compatible, so you can connect your phone to the sauna to have your preferred choice of music, podcast, or listen to an audible. If you prefer to have no device for your session, we always have music playing in the sauna for you. Please let me know if you prefer silence and we will happily turn the music off.
